CIH Cymru Proud to be a Professional Workshop North Wales
About the event
You are all housing professionals – a professionally committed, values-driven and ethically-minded group of people, committed to excellence in terms of meeting the housing sector’s core purpose of providing an affordable and sustainable housing option for all.
You can do more for people in one day than most professionals can achieve in a whole career – so we must use that influence to its greatest extent. The decisions you are taking every day can have a huge impact on people’s lives. That’s why professionalism is so important.
Being an effective housing professional means having the right knowledge, skills, behaviours, values and ethics – and that you can be trusted by the tenants and communities you serve. It also means adapting to all the current and future challenges our sector will throw at you – learning new things and developing new skills throughout your career.
Continually investing in your development, being conscious of it, documenting it and demonstrating the value of that activity is a vital part of being a professional.
But when you’re asked by someone from outside the sector ‘what do you do for a living?’, do you say you’re a “housing professional” – and if you do, is the response often “what’s that?”, “what does that involve?”.
When was the last time a pupil at school speaking to their careers adviser - who want a career giving back, and helping communities and individuals – was asked whether they’d thought about a career as a housing professional?
So do we need to better understand and identify what is at the core of being a good housing professional? What are the competencies, skills, knowledge and ethics needed to be the best you can be?
We are currently reviewing what it is to be a housing professional and we want to hear from you, housing professionals form across tenure, to tell us what you think should be in the new Professional Standards Framework we are developing.
Thank you for Cartrefi Conwy for hosting the event.
