For a long time the UK Housing sector has recognised that there has been a skills gap emerging across all levels of the organisation. This is experienced in different ways depending on what area of the country your organisation is based in. Recent political and economic developments such as Brexit have seen the problem come to light once again.
The CIH has acknowledged this issue and set it as a priority off the back of sector demand and calls for support. How do we attract the next generation? What risks are there to our organisation in key business areas, should we not be able to attract enough of the right talent? The CIH Futures have been working hard on the succession planning front, but there is a serious question mark over the specialist roles required to see our sector be successful and meet government and public demand for our services.
Dan Short, director at Greenacre has been working on a piece of research identifying where the biggest skills gap are and where they will be, whilst also looking at the sector response and what that needs to be. Dan works with a vast cross section of providers and has used this to inform his research. He will cover these 4 big questions whilst joining us on the HR Chat:
• What does the future look like for the sector?
• What skills will be needed in 5 years time?
• What skills do you have already and need to retain?
• What skills are you missing?
