Apprenticeships: what's an end point assessment and why do housing organisations need to know?
Housing apprenticeships are changing. As NVQs leave stage left, end point assessments enter stage right. CIH education manager Sarah Pallett explains what housing organisations training apprentices need to know.
The new housing apprenticeship standards in England focus on the knowledge, skills and behaviours that an apprentice needs in order to do their job. The end point assessment assesses that the apprentice has achieved these requirements and thus determines that they are 'job ready'.
While the delivery of the apprenticeship is carried out by an apprenticeship training provider, in partnership with the employer, the end point assessment must be delivered by an independent organisation, called an apprentice assessment organisation (AAO).
Housing and property management apprenticeships
CIH is an AAO for the new housing/property management apprenticeships at levels 2, 3 and 4. We are well-positioned to support apprenticeship training providers, employers and apprentices through our gateway requirements and into the end point assessment.
The end point assessment for these particular apprenticeships requires the apprentice to have completed a project (or a case study at level 2), a portfolio of evidence (where appropriate) and a professional conversation at the very end of their apprenticeship programme. The professional conversation is the apprentice’s opportunity to showcase the knowledge, behaviours and skills they have developed throughout their apprenticeship through responding to targeted questions.
