CIH Cymru welcomes focus on housing in Welsh Government draft budget

Today the Welsh Government announced its draft budget setting out its spending priorities. CIH Cymru welcomes the commitment to prioritise building more affordable homes as the sector continues to work towards the 20,000 affordable homes target set at the start of this Assembly term.

CIH Cymru director Matt Dicks said: "Today’s Welsh Government draft budget further highlights housing's role as a vital piece of national infrastructure. We know that high quality social and affordable housing plays a pivotal role in improving people’s health and well-being, reducing demand on services such as health and social care and gives children the best start in life.

"We are pleased to see such a commitment to boosting the supply of affordable housing in Wales underpinned by an emphasis on supporting those who are homeless and ending rough sleeping. The protection of the Supporting People budget, which provides the funding for a wide range of services provided to potentially vulnerable people and is central to the efforts in preventing homelessness is a signal to the housing profession that our voice is being heard."
