CIH Cymru welcomes new measures to address rough sleeping
Yesterday the Welsh Government announced two new measures aimed at addressing rough sleeping in Wales. Rebecca Evans, the Minister for Housing & Regeneration announced the publication of a policy document focusing on how Housing First could be adopted across Wales and a new rough sleeping action plan.
Responding to the announcement Matt Dicks, director of CIH Cymru, said: "The presence of rough sleeping in Wales is a national disgrace and the worsening picture highlighted last week by the rough sleeping statistics is simply unacceptable.
"Three things must happen in order to improve the picture and work towards eradicating rough sleeping in Wales. Firstly, the roll-out of Housing First services nationwide with support for local authority commissioners and support services alike. Secondly, the continued protection of Supporting People services, without which a Housing First approach would not be workable. Thirdly, support to ensure those in most need of housing benefit is able to access funds quickly and efficiently.
"Therefore, we welcome the announcements by the Welsh Government today, particularly in terms of rolling out Housing First, and hope that the Welsh and Westminster Governments together, with public services across Wales, will engage the housing sector fully in delivering forward-thinking solutions."
