Celebration in London marks CIH centenary
On 8 and 9 December CIH hosted a series of celebrations to mark its centenary. London and South East Boards hosted a lively networking event to mark CIH at 100.
The event at City Hall provided a perfect backdrop over the Thames with the City lights illuminating some great discussions. Members at all stages of their career came together to celebrate.
Anne Chapman, Chair of South East Board introduced the evening by marking the incredible contribution of Octavia Hill. Her values and recognition of housing as a fundamental need live on through the CIH today.
Alice Smith, winner of the 2016 CIH Rising Stars award, wowed the crowd with a fantastic talk giving a compelling view from someone at the start of their housing career. The CIH is a crucial companion on the career ladder.
Kate Dodsworth, Chair of London Board, closed the formalities with a plea for housing to be seen as a profession that young people aspire to. The CIH have the tools to help us. Let's tell the world what a wonderful sector this is!
The centenary celebrations around the country have provided a platform for reflection. There's so much more to do in the next 100 years but let's hope the desperate need is a thing of the past when our leaders of tomorrow raise their glasses.
