Let's get together

CIH Events Team discuss: annual & national conferences, one day seminars, South East conference and Spring Get-Together.

Last year, CIH organised six regional annual conferences, six national conferences on hot topics and over 70 one day seminars. This year, for the first time in its history, we descended upon Brighton in a wave of enthusiasm to organise the South East Conference and Exhibition, the largest regional event in England.

However it’s not just our hard work or lack of sleep that helps to make our events a success. On a balmy Spring morning in March we ran a Spring Get-together at the CIH London office as a thank you to all those speakers and sponsors who have supported and offered their time to attend our events. The day included an update on the events diary by the Head of Events, Denise Osborne, a Policy update by Laura Shimili, CIH Policy and Practice Officer, and a speed networking session by Liam O’Connell, Business and Culture Change Consultant.

The CIH events team is by no means a one-man band. A wide range of housing practitioners from across the country continuously offer their knowledge and expertise to help develop and facilitate a growing range of exciting and topical programme of events. The CIH policy team also play an important role in guiding us when putting together programmes, offering us their world class expert knowledge on all things housing related.

And through the recent tough climate of change, this sharing of knowledge and partnership working has paid off – last year we trained over 6,000 housing professionals, with 97% of delegates rating their overall experience of our events as very good. We’ve also increased the number of external partners we work with, and are looking forward to event-managing conferences later in the year for organisations including the Social Landlords Crime & Nuisance Group, Orbit Housing and the Housing Diversity Network.

June sees us once again welcoming the Hong Kong Housing Authority Field Trip to the UK, whom after visiting Harrogate will be travelling around the country visiting a number of housing providers to share experiences and enhance their understanding of the key housing initiatives and strategies in the UK. A big thank you goes out to all those providers who have offered to hold a field visit for the delegates to share their good practice.
