Getting to know you: Lisa Wilson

The Housing Festival 2018 is being organised by CIH Futures NI; a group of ambitious and talented young housing professionals who are eager to show the fun side of the housing sector! In this ‘get to know’ series of blogs we will introduce each member of CIH Futures NI individually – so that you can get to know them a little bit better! Next up, it’s Lisa Wilson...

First, tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Lisa Wilson and I am an Income Recovery Officer in Clanmil Housing Association. I’ve worked in Housing since I was 18 years old in the NIHE in Programme Management. In my spare time I am planning my wedding at the end of June so I don’t really have much spare at all right now!

Tell us about your job and organisation...

I’ve worked for Clanmil Housing Association for the past 4 years firstly as a Housing Officer and then becoming Income Recovery Officer. I thoroughly enjoyed my time as Housing Officer, especially working on the Felden Housing scheme which involved giving 97 families a brand new home! I now work in Income Recovery which is a very challenging job but I work with families and indviduals on a daily basis to help them sustain their tenancies.

How did you get into housing?

When I left school I didn’t have a clue what I wanted to do, I thought I wanted to be a beautician! I got into NIHE on a 2 month temporary contract and I enjoyed it so much 13 years later I still work in Housing. My first few years I was lucky to experience lots of different roles within planned maintenance and housing. Through working in the NIHE I was able to get a degree in Business which has helped me progress my career. My favourite role of all has been a Housing Officer, it’s a great feeling giving a family a home and it’s such a varied role - no two days are ever the same! I would recommend anyone to start a career in Housing as it opens up so many opportunities. And just to add I am beautician on the side!

What's your favorite thing about being a CIH member?

The best thing about being a cih member is being part of the cih futures group and putting together the housing festival. It’s exciting to be involved in encouraging young people to consider a career in housing!
