New care home for Bedford

Bedford Citizens Housing Association (BCHA) is in phase one of its £11 million redevelopment located in Kimbolton Road, Bedford.

The project consists of a 72 bed care home (phase one) and 42 units of extra-care (phase two). The two phases share community facilities known as the Club House. This facility will provide multiple spaces for sporting, social and intellectual activities. Separate health and wellbeing, sports and library facilities are available plus a cinema area and a large multi-purpose space for parties, meetings and external use.

The care home has been built to exceptionally high standards. Each room has an en-suite wet room, wifi, a flat screen TV and is fully furnished.

Vanessa Connolly, chief executive, said: “We are a small housing association and have been planning this scheme for five years. It is important to us that we set exceptionally high design and space standards in the care home and extra-care scheme. We believe that growing old should be a positive experience and we believe this is best achieved by providing lots of opportunities to maintain existing skills and interests and to develop new ones”.
