Housing Futures Cymru – Minister launches new policy advisory board at TAI 2017

Cabinet Secretary for Communities & Children, Carl Sargeant AM has launched CIH Cymru’s Housing Futures Cymru project.

Housing Futures CymruHousing Futures Cymru aims to get young frontline housing professionals directly involved in the decision-making process in Wales by creating a young professionals policy advisory board.

It will consist of a board of 11 members, two each from Wales’ five electoral regions and Wales’ representative of CIH’s Future Housing Professionals Advisory Panel which meets at a UK level.

They will meet four times a year to formulate policy positions aimed at directly influencing the Welsh policy-makers in Cardiff Bay and at Westminster.

Part of that process will involve engaging directly with key sector leaders and commentators to formulate evidence-based outcomes.

The Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Children said:

“I welcome the launch of the new CIH Cymru initiative ‘Housing Futures Cymru’.

“This advisory network for young housing professionals will help ensure our sector leaders of the future can be directly involved in the development of policy.

“In their current frontline positions, they will be able to provide a fresh insight into key issues and generate new ideas, policies and services to meet the needs of the sector.

“This matches our approach which recognises the increasing need for innovative thinking.”

Matt Dicks, Director of CIH Cymru, said:

“It is fantastic to have Welsh Government support for this important and exciting CIH Cymru project.

“Our young professionals are often the people who experience the sharp end of the decisions taken by the policy-makers, and often the ones who come up with the best solutions to the problems created by those decisions.

“Since taking up my position at CIH Cymru I have spoken to many young professionals in the sector and their enthusiasm and social heart has really struck me.

“We need to harness that resource and ensure that it informs future policy development in the sector.

“They are our leaders of the future so we must start listening to them now!”
