Introduction to Development & Regeneration Part One of a Two part Series

Introduction to Development and Regeneration Part 1 of a 2 Part Series

To consider how development and regeneration is achieved by housing providers and their partners through a combination of presented information, delegate discussion and opportunity to reflect and apply.  In particular, how the work of housing providers and other agencies can create environments where people feel ‘at home’, in places where they want to live.  Balancing this with assets that are efficient for the housing provider, adding value to its business.  Addressing the social v commercial balance.

Learning Outcomes

•    The strategic context for development
Such as national policy and plans & housing strategies
•    The stages of the development process
The six stages from identifying and researching a site, through to getting feedback from people who have rented or bought the homes
•    The different types of development and how they apply
Including why we build different types of development, such as for affordable rent, for sale and for particular people, such as older people
•    Funding for development
And how this has become less ‘formulaic’ and more sophisticated, such as ‘cross subsidy’ with its reliance on the housing market and on what we can build
•    The role of agencies involved and how they relate together
The importance of the network of agencies working well together, such the local planning & housing authority, Homes England, the Regulator of Social Housing (and other nation’s bodies), Elected Mayors, London Assembly and Combined Authorities
