Overview

This one day course will provide guidance on how to efficiently and safely inspect void or tenanted properties, to ensure they are suitable for accommodating clients. It will include how HHSRS integrates with other procedures and the legal framework that underlies this aspect of housing provision.

What you'll learn

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Prepare for a room or property inspection, using HHSRS guidelines as the framework
  • Inspect a room or full property to a reasonable standard
  • Understand the legal framework within which such an inspection takes place, including the HHSRS approach
  • Review how standard forms will assist in effective inspection, using the pro-forma provided
  • Identify common disrepair issues that may prevent use of the premises
  • Identify common and some non-traditional forms of building construction to aid effective defect diagnosis
  • Improve how you deal with property inspections and post inspection procedures
  • Consider the application of minimum standards in good inspection practice and lettings
  • Understand how property inspection fits into your organisation procedures and how good practice can improve performance
  • Relate the property inspections to a working relationship with private sector landlords
