Discover more about the members of CIH Futures Northern Ireland. Today, we're sitting down with Michaela McCusker, team leader at Northern Ireland Housing Executive.
I completed work experience in my local housing executive office. I thoroughly enjoyed the week which gave me a flavour for all the different areas the job entailed. Every day was different and I enjoyed the variety of role.
I completed a four year Housing Management degree at the University of Ulster, coupled with a one year placement at a housing association. I continued to work there part time during my final year to gain further experience.
Similarly to what initially attracted me to the career, I love the variety of the job. I enjoy the challenge it provides and the ability to make a difference to the lives of others.
There are so many memorable experiences – I led a new business project to develop and open a new community hub for tenants and the local community of West Belfast. This was a special time as we worked closely with the tenants to develop a space for their use. I was able to bring projects and activities to the
space to help tenants, their kids and the wider community which was very rewarding.
