The Bugler Group celebrates 40th anniversary

In the summer of 1982, Bugler Developments was founded by Tom Bugler. Having worked as a managing director at the large Irish building contractor, McInerney, Tom pursued an ambition to run his own business and our first new home was built and sold for £120,000 in 1983 (a small price for a bespoke luxury four-bed detached house in Heronsgate, Herts).

From our beginnings as a small private house builder, the past four decades has seen our company evolve into a multi-disciplined Group. We specialise in building new homes for the public sector throughout London and the South East (Bugler Developments), as well as maintaining our on-going commitment to developing bespoke private homes (Bugler Homes) and growing our presence in the land sector (Bugler Land). This breadth of knowledge and experience in construction, private housing development and land make us the ideal joint venture partner for our many public sector clients.

Our company is still wholly owned by the Bugler family and together with my brothers, Kieran and Denis, we remain fully involved in the leadership and day to day running of our business.  The family aspect of our business is a huge factor in the way we operate and all the team at Bugler are fully signed up to our enduring and underlying values and principles of Partnership, Lasting Reputation, Approachability, Caring and Excellence (PLACE).

Our expertise in the public housing sector has led to many successful and longstanding partnerships with a number of leading housing associations throughout our region. More recently we have forged new partnerships with several local authorities as this area of the market expands. From the seeds of our first small public sector project in Ealing in 1992, we are now building circa 600 new homes per year for the affordable housing sector, and we are involved in several developments in excess of 100 dwellings.

The same principles are applied to all our private developments, where quality and the customer come first. As an example, at our recent development of 16 new homes in Bagshot, Kieran Bugler, Bugler Homes CEO, took the decision to create an orchard in an area of the site that could have accommodated additional new homes.  This unique and environmentally friendly approach was warmly welcomed by all, not least the planning officers and new homeowners.

The reasons for our longevity and success are numerous, but fundamentally our belief in teamwork and commitment to building quality homes with a non-contractual, can-do attitude are at the heart of all we do.  Wherever you see the Bugler brand – we are currently on site in 25 different locations throughout the capital and beyond – you can be sure that behind the hoarding there will be a fully committed and professional Bugler team.

It is with a great sense of pride that we look to the future, and we look forward to speaking to many of you in person at Housing Brighton on 10-11 May 2022!
