The CIH Award in Neighbourhood Maintenance at SCQF Level 5 is accredited by (Scottish Qualifications Authority) SQA at SCQF level 5 and intended for delivery to the Scottish market. It is a vocationally related qualification for the housing sector, regulated by SQA Accreditation.
This qualification will provide the skills and knowledge required to maintain communal areas of housing estates and neighbourhoods.
The qualification comprises five mandatory units totaling eight credits. Successful completion of all units is required to be awarded the qualification.
The unit aims to provide the skills and understanding for dealing with customers and portraying a positive image of themselves and the organisation they represent.
The unit aims to provide the skills and understanding for cleaning and maintaining external surfaces and areas, including identifying the methods, products and tools to be used and using them effectively.
The unit aims to provide the skills and understanding necessary for cleaning glazed surfaces and facades, including health and safety and finishing techniques.
The unit aims to provide the skills necessary to be able to assist with maintaining grass surfaces, including tools and equipment and health and safety considerations.
The unit aims to provide the skills necessary to operate powered garden machinery safely.
This qualification is designed for those who are working in estates or neighbourhood maintenance to provide the knowledge and skills to carry out their work effectively.
CIH does not set entry requirements. Our CIH approved study centres may establish their own criteria to ensure learners' suitability for the qualification.

The qualification is assessed by CIH approved study centres. Centres can use a variety of methods, including tasks, portfolios, assignments, and professional discussions.
After completing this qualification, you may wish to progress onto further learning by specialising in a particular vocational skill or studying a generalist property maintenance qualification at a higher level.
On completion of the qualification, you may wish to become a standard member of CIH.

An SCQF level 5 qualification requires the learner to demonstrate an equal level of knowledge and/or skill to achieve their certificate as a level 2 qualification regulated by Ofqual (England) , Qualifications Wales (QW), or CCEA (Northern Ireland).
The content of this qualification, and knowledge and skill the learner must demonstrate is identical to the CIH level 2 Certificate in housing practice, regulated by Ofqual, QW & CCEA.
