There are a wide range of units available covering the skills and knowledge required to be an active resident participating in housing and/or the community. This includes units covering; participating in community activities, chairing skills and inspecting your landlord.

To achieve the full qualification you are required to pass three units. You may also achieve a specialist pathway in the following:

• Community action
• Tenants and residents associations
• Resident scrutiny

It is not necessary to have any previous knowledge or experience in housing or resident involvement to study the CIH Level two Award in Involvement in Housing and Communities. If you are active in housing and/or your community this qualification is the right choice for you.

1. Customer care in the private rented sector (mandatory)
   How to deal with customers, resolve complaints and have an awareness of equality and diversity.
2. Property and tenancy management (mandatory)
   The responsibilities of private landlords from start to end of a tenancy.
3. Tenancies and the law (mandatory)
   The different types of tenancies and the law relating to them. The legal requirements of preparing a home to be let.

To achieve the full qualification you must pass all three units.

You will be aspiring to or working in the housing private rented sector to study the CIH Level two Certificate in Letting and Managing Residential Property. If you are working in the housing private rented sector and have not yet got a qualification, this is the one for you.

1. Housing provision and housing organisations (mandatory)
   The range of services offered by landlords and housing organisations, who they deliver them with and how they are financed. Features of housing tenure and the relationship between landlord and tenant.
2. Customer service for housing (mandatory)
   How to deal with customers and have an awareness of equality and diversity.
3. Professional development in housing (mandatory)
   The range of roles in housing and what is required to fulfil them. You will explore your personal professional development.
4. Assets, repairs and maintenance (mandatory)
   The main types of dwellings across the housing stock and how they are maintained and repaired.

To achieve the qualification you must pass all four units.

You will be aspiring to or working in the housing sector to study the CIH Level two Certificate in Housing Practice. If you are working in the housing sector and have not yet got a qualification, this is the one for you.

1. Portray a positive personal image (mandatory)
   The approach for dealing with customers and portraying a positive image of themselves and the organisation they represent.
2. Assist with the maintenance of grass surfaces (optional)
   How to assist with maintaining grass surfaces, including tools, equipment and health and safety considerations.
3. Clean and maintain external surfaces and areas (optional)
   How to clean and maintain external surfaces and areas. The methods, products, tools and how to use them effectively.
4. Clean glazed surfaces and facades (optional)
   How to clean glazed surfaces and facades, including health and safety and finishing techniques.
5. Safe operation of powered garden machinery (optional)
   How to operate and maintain powered garden machinery safely.

To achieve the full qualification you must pass both the mandatory unit and three of the optional units.

You will be aspiring to or working in the estate/neighbourhood maintenance field to study the CIH Level two Certificate in Neighbourhood Maintenance. If you are working in this role and have not yet got a qualification, this is the one for you.
