This one-day course will support you to understand and unpack effective decarbonisation strategies and the path to net-zero by 2050.

On this course you'll explore:

  • Government commitments, including the recent Heat and buildings strategy and The Future Buildings Standard
  • Taking stock of your energy data and environmental performance, including measurement, monitoring, impact and current contribution
  • Best practice from within the sector, including options for innovation
  • Sustainable action across your organisation (customers, colleagues, suppliers and reputation)
  • Net-zero carbon value management, performance and culture, signposting and current green finances available.

  • Have a better understanding of the context and national direction of travel
  • Understand your current position and the options on offer
  • Know of some excellent best practices and approaches being modelled by others
  • Have boosted your knowledge of the resources and signposting available.

Your trainer

Barry Smith is a former chief executive and chair of small-medium housing providers and has previously held the head of housing in local government. He has been working independently since 2004 and delivers a range of CIH Housing Academy programmes on leadership, governance and board member skills. He has previously co-authored four best practice guides to explain and stimulate environmental responsibility in new build and existing stock.

Barry has a reputation for creating the space to reflect on the challenges before us, draw on the inner creativity within housing providers, identify the future direction and build robust strategies in these volatile and uncertain times.
