What it takes to Make a Stand against domestic abuse – Board perspective.

Organisation-wide change is required to address domestic abuse. Understand how you can help drive this change, to improve outcomes for residents, staff and communities.

Domestic abuse is a critical issue for boards because it directly impacts tenant and colleague safety, stability, and housing security. Survivors often face homelessness, financial hardship, and difficulty accessing safe accommodation, so housing providers play a vital role in providing secure housing options, ensuring tenancy sustainment, and supporting survivors through effective policies and partnerships with specialist services.

This session will help Board members to understand the scale of the issue, legal obligations, and the need for a proactive approach to safeguarding and prevention, ensuring organisations are equipped to respond effectively.

  • Hear firsthand from our panel of expert contributors
  • Participate in the conversation – we encourage attendees to engage, ask questions and share their insights
  • Communicate and share ideas with fellow board members, senior level officers and governance professionals to help guide your organisation through the complexities of domestic abuse

Your speakers:

  • Dr Kelly Henderson, founder and managing director of Addressing Domestic Abuse (ADA), co-founder of the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA) and non-exec director at Believe Housing
  • Michelle Meldrum, CEO Berwickshire Housing Association (BHA), Board member at Believe Housing, Wheatley Homes (East) and Addressing Domestic Abuse
