Working together to ensure safe, affordable and decent homes

Join CIH president, Lara Oyedele, as she shares CIH's vision on supporting the sector and highlights her presidential campaign, In my shoes.

This week RMT have announced further rail strikes on Wednesday 1 February, significantly affecting travel within and to London. We have there taken the decision to move the CIH Presidential Address and Appeal 2023 to Monday 20 February, remaining at the same venue - The Brewery, 52 Chiswell Street, London EC1Y 4SD. All bookings will be automatically transferred to the new date. New bookings remain open for the new date of the 20 February.

Our core purpose

Take your place alongside 500 key influencers and professionals from across the housing sector, as we:

  • Set out CIH priorities to provide housing professionals and their organisations with the advice, support, and knowledge they need
  • Galvanise support for Lara's presidential campaign, In my shoes, challenging the lack of ethnic and racial diversity in the boardrooms of housing organisations
  • Support Shoe Aid, the presidential charity, by raising funds and donating shoes.

CIH is a registered charity, with education at the core of our charitable status. Our purpose is to promote the science and art of housing, its standards and ideals and the training and education of housing professionals. This is set out in our Royal Charter and Bylaws.

The Presidential Address provides the opportunity for us to share the work we are undertaking with the sector along with our plans for the future.

Presidential campaign, In my shoes

In my shoes seeks to raise awareness of the importance of racial diversity in the housing sector, drawing on Lara’s lived experience in the sector and racial adversity.

The campaign will amplify conversations and awareness, by sharing resources, engaging in conversations and sharing a wide variety of lived experiences to create a momentum where racial and ethnic diversity are consistently on the agenda to drive forward positive change.

Shoe Aid

During Lara’s presidential term she will be fundraising for her chosen presidential charity, Shoe Aid, which speaks to Lara’s lived experience of homelessness as a young woman, as well as her love of shoes. There will be a donation point at the Presidential Address and Appeal and we are encouraging guests to look in their wardrobes and find a pair of shoes to donate. These charitable donations will provide vital resources to families and individuals in need, especially during the current cost of living crisis.
