CIH responds to Keir Starmer's Plan for Change speech

Today, Prime Minister Keir Starmer made a speech on the government's Plan for Change. Rachael Williamson, CIH's interim director of policy, communications and external affairs commented on the speech:

“It’s good to see the government’s recognition of housing as a vital driver of economic growth in its Plan for Change, though it’s much more than this. Ensuring people have access to affordable, safe homes underpins individual wellbeing as well as boosting productivity. To achieve the government’s ambitious target of 1.5 million new homes, drive up quality and tackle the housing crisis, the forthcoming Spending Review must prioritise meaningful investment in housing across all tenures, especially social housing.

“This commitment should be matched by a robust and detailed cross-government policy framework within the anticipated housing strategy, ensuring the right homes are built in the right places and supported by critical infrastructure. Alongside this we need measures to support people in need now, who cannot wait for new homes to be built.

“We look forward to working with the government to turn these ambitions into reality for communities across the country."
