The Planning and Infrastructure Bill has completed its second reading in the House of Commons, after first being introduced to parliament on 11 March.
CIH welcomes the government’s focus on tackling the housing crisis and accelerating the delivery of much-needed homes and infrastructure. With over 1.3 million households on local authority waiting lists and thousands of families in temporary accommodation, the need for affordable, well-designed homes has never been greater.
The Planning and Infrastructure Bill provides an opportunity to streamline decision-making, reduce unnecessary delays, and support the delivery of the critical infrastructure that communities need.
Whilst important, planning reform alone will not solve the housing crisis. We also need a long-term housing strategy and investment in social and affordable housing, with a commitment to ensuring homes are built in the right places, at the right quality, and for those who need them most.
CIH stands ready to work with government, housing providers, and planners to help shape an approach that delivers homes, strengthens communities, and ensures that everyone has a decent, affordable place to live.
