This online plus qualification enables you to be an effective housing practitioner and will provide you with a deeper understanding of how your organisation and others in the housing industry work. It covers six key areas:
- Housing management services
- Financing for housing
- Housing law
- Housing policy
- Professional practice skills for housing
- Managing people and change
In this unit you will cover the following:
- Understand the basis for the provision of housing services.
- Understand key housing management functions.
- Understand how individuals access housing.
In this unit you will cover the following:
- Understand the impact of financing policy on the provision of housing
- Understand the income and expenditure of housing organisations
- Understand approaches to budgeting and forecasting for the financing of housing organisations
In this unit you will cover the following:
- Understand the legal framework in a housing context
- Understand the key legislation in relation to landlords and tenants
- Understand the application of the law to an area of housing practice
In this unit you will cover the following:
- Understand the policy process in a housing context
- Understand the historical development of national housing policy
- Understand how a housing policy impacts on practice
In this unit you will cover the following:
- Understand the concepts of being a member of a profession and acting professionally
- Understand the skills required to be a housing professional
- Be able to assess own professional performance
- Be able to manage own professional development
In this unit you will cover the following:
- Understand the key human resource functions used to manage people.
- Understand the principles of team management.
- Understand how to manage change.
To enrol onto this qualification you should, as a minimum requirement, have completed one of the following:
- The CIH Level 3 Certificate in Housing Practice
- An equivalent level 3 qualification
If you don’t meet this minimum requirement but have relevant experience working in the housing sector, your application may also be considered. You will be asked to provide evidence of your qualifications and/or your experience of working in the housing sector as part of the application process.

We have switched our blending learning to online plus, so you can get the same support, but all done virtually.
With online plus you’ll get a dedicated tutor, extra support, flexibility and more:
- You’ll get an induction period to help you settle into your qualification and get to know your tutor and fellow learners
- Attend six virtual learning days as part of this course, delivered by your CIH tutor
- Access to e-learning materials, opportunity to communicate and share ideas via the online learning platform
- Your own dedicated CIH tutor who will offer support throughout your qualification via email and telephone. Your tutor will assess your assignments and give you feedback as well as providing you with advice and support on any academic issues
