This online plus qualification provides you with the knowledge and understanding across key areas of housing policy and practice, at a recognised professional standard and the knowledge and skills required to perform in a senior management role. It covers six key areas:
- Ethical practice in housing
- Professional practice skills for housing including being a professional
- Leadership and management in housing
- Strategic and business planning for housing
- Housing in context
- Managing relationships in housing
This unit covers:
- Including theories of ethical practice
- Ethical dilemmas in housing
- Current ethical issues affecting housing professionals
This unit covers:
- Being a professional
- Skills required to be a housing professional
- Assessing your performance and managing your own professional development
This unit covers:
- Theories of management and leadership
- The attributes of successful leaders and managers
- Reflective practice
This unit covers:
- Social versus commercial objectives
- Theory and practice of strategic management
- Developing business plans
This unit covers:
- The historical development of housing policy
- The influence of political ideology
- Comparative housing studies
This unit covers:
- The changing profile of housing customers
- Understanding housing customers’ needs
- Effective partnership working
- Principles of contract management
This qualification is a route to CIH chartered membership. To enrol for this qualification you should be working in either a paid or voluntary capacity in housing and also have completed one of the following:
- CIH Level 4 Certificate for the Housing Profession
- CIH Level 4 Certificate, or Diploma, in Housing Practice or equivalent
You will be asked to provide evidence of your qualifications and/or your experience of working in the housing sector as part of the application process and may be eligible to claim Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) for the Professional Practice Skills in Housing unit.
Course cost: £3,000 - this includes Chartered membership for up one year following your qualification.

Duration: approximately 12 months, with an average of 8 hours study a week

We have switched our blending learning to online plus, so you can get the same support, but all done virtually.
With online plus you’ll get a dedicated tutor, extra support, flexibility and more:
- You’ll get an induction period to help you settle into your qualification and get to know your tutor and fellow learners
- Attend six virtual learning days as part of this course, delivered by your CIH tutor
- Access to e-learning materials, opportunity to communicate and share ideas via the online learning platform
- Your own dedicated CIH tutor who will offer support throughout your qualification via email and telephone. Your tutor will assess your assignments and give you feedback as well as providing you with advice and support on any academic issues
