Get to know Faisal Butt, London board chair

Prior to his role at the London Borough of Barnet, he was the operational director for employment, skills and homelessness at Barking and Dagenham and before that head of housing strategy at the London Borough of Camden. Faisal is a CIH Fellow, and throughout his career has engaged in promoting and developing staff. Between 2013-2015 Faisal acted as an ambassador and visible BME manager at Camden Council supporting junior staff to develop their careers by providing mentoring support. Faisal sits on the board of Tower Hamlets Community Housing (3,000 homes) and up until recently was a board member at CIH Futures.

Faisal has made a positive impact on the sector through paid and voluntary roles – as a board member, senior manager and in the public sphere. He’s energetic, committed and inclusive in his approach and has a genuine desire to reinforce the diversity of the sector, which in particular makes him stand out as an ambassador for everything which is good about our profession.

I'm delighted to have been selected as the new CIH London chair. It's a crucial time for housing and I know our members in London are dealing with a huge number of priorities - from building more homes, tackling homelessness and rough sleeping to delivering even better services for less money. Maintaining excellent standards for the sector is more important than ever and the London board has a pivotal role in helping members through change. I'm really looking forward to playing my part.

The London board has recently made a number of new member appointments to add to an existing highly-skilled, professional and passionate board. A number of events, activities and programmes are planned for 2019 from supporting career development and providing a range of networking opportunities over the summer. We also look forward to putting on a number of think tanks around the social housing green paper, resident engagement and diversity.
