CIH membership is a crucial part of finding success as a housing professional and our community of individuals and organisations are always learning from each other. If you’re looking for inspiration, we’ve got several events that cover success stories and strategies in various areas that you can implement in your own organisation. Complex topics will be broken down by industry experts, giving you the confidence to reach your professional goals. Attendance is free with your CIH membership.
Starting with the Trauma-Informed Hoarding webinar on 3 September, you will learn the importance of compassion and empowerment when dealing with tenants suffering from the mental health condition. Recognising that hoarding isn’t a lifestyle choice is the first step to building a sustainable solution together in which the tenant has the opportunity to recover.
Another way you can help tenants and others in the housing community is by being aware of the best practice when it comes to dealing with domestic abuse. Our Building Better Boards: Domestic Abuse - Knowing Your Role webinar on 7 October gives you the opportunity to hear from expert speakers on how to ‘Make a Stand’ against domestic abuse as a board member. You can discuss changes that need to occur across your organisation, working with likeminded professionals towards a solution framework.
It’s nice to be able to say yes to tenants, especially when they are asking for adaptations to their home due to a disability. The Find Ways to Say Yes: Improving Adaptations for Tenants of Housing Associations webinar, taking place on 16 October, will cover how landlords can take charge of improving tenants’ living situations by proactively applying for adaptations where necessary. It benefits both landlord and tenant and contributes to a positive relationship between the two.
As well as those with disabilities, many older tenants living in supported housing will need home adaptations. Our webinar: Older People's Housing in Wales (in partnership with Erosh) on 11 November focuses on how to deal with the challenges of an ageing population. Learn how to deliver the care that older community members may need and implement ethical solutions to challenging behaviours.
CIH’s Employer Initiatives to Encourage Housing As A Career of Choice webinar on 17 September is part of our president, Elly Hoult’s, CHOOSE HOUSING campaign. With talks from exceptional individuals from a range of employers, this webinar is definitely not one to miss if you’re committed to raising the status of housing as a career path.
If you’re someone who finds they learn better in person, The AI Advantage: Social Housing's Next Leap event on 9 October in Scotland might be for you. The complicated topic of AI will be broken down by industry experts and you’ll hear about how other organisations have used it to deliver smarter services.
Another event that covers similar topics will be Awaab's Law & Artificial Intelligence (AI) - Sector Insight and Innovation, hosted in Leeds on 30 September. Not only will this event cover recent AI developments in the housing sector, it will also explain the upcoming legal requirement of Awaab’s Law and how you should be gearing up for change. Hear from the Housing Ombudsman Service, Ward Hadaway solicitors, and more.
Plus, watch out for a new CIH Podcast episode coming this autumn on AI in housing too with some expert speakers!
Continue learning from the experts by attending the Carbon Literacy: Demystifying the Jargon in Sustainability webinar on 18 September in which Sojan Johny, housing coordinator at The Carbon Literacy Project, will be speaking. This will highlight some of the common misconceptions about climate change, helping you to feel more confident when discussing retrofit or repair works with residents. Your organisation’s net zero targets are important and this webinar should help you reach them.
Pathways out of homelessness can sometimes seem impossible, but our webinar Family Homelessness: The Barriers to Accessing Secure Accommodation on 17 November tackles the problem head on. You will gain insight from academics in the housing field into how the industry needs to change so that everyone in the UK has a place to call home.
