Best housing development

This award recognises developments that provide desirable and sustainable places to live, improving the lives of people within the community. The well-designed development will demonstrate creative approaches and excellence from concept to delivery.

Judges will look for evidence of:

  • How the needs of the local market and people were met by the development
  • How the development achieved a sense of place and cohesion with the surrounding area
  • Innovation and imagination in design and construction.

Nominations for this award could be for a single project or refer to your general organisational approach to customer service.

Working in partnership

Project category

Working in partnership

This award recognises collaboration between organisations or groups that achieves the best possible outcomes. We are looking for organisations that have worked collaboratively to improve service delivery across geographical boundaries, sectors or client groups to benefit the people who use their services. The winning organisations will have evidenced good practice in setting up and managing the partnership, including establishing new ways of working. 

Judges will look for evidence of:

  • Evidence of new and innovative ways of working 
  • Improving service delivery and quality as a result of partnership working
  • Demonstrated best practice and improving the wellbeing of communities through working together.

Who is eligible?

This award is open to all organisations working in housing, homelessness and related services and we particularly welcome joint applications. 

Excellence in communication

Project category

Excellence in communication

In challenging times, being there for your community is exceptionally important. This award recognises landlords whose communication(s) with their tenants and residents has been outstanding over the past year, keeping them fully informed and supported. Nominations for this award could be for a single project or refer to your general organisational approach to communication. 

Entries should showcase any or all of the following:

  • Your work in the community and across the sector
  • Effective planning, strategy, and campaign tactics
  • Evidence of impact e.g. media coverage, campaign reach, customer response
  • Evidence of outcomes.

Who is eligible?

This award is for teams across all tenures (not just dedicated communications teams) who have delivered outstanding communications in the last year. To be eligible, relevant activity should have taken place within the last 12 months.

Excellence in housing

Project category

Excellence in housing

This award is aimed at programmes or projects which can clearly demonstrate how they have developed an innovative approach which has made a real difference to the lives of tenants and customers. This could be any new product, service or technology – being able to demonstrate innovation is the key.

Judges will look for evidence of:

  • The use of innovative approach(es) to solve a particular housing problem, clearly demonstrating how innovation has been implemented
  • Clear evidence of success in either improvement of customer satisfaction levels or have improved the lives of people in the community where the organisation works
  • Improved outcomes for users
  • Value for money.

Who is eligible?

The award is open to all housing organisations across all tenures and suppliers to the housing sector, as well as community and tenants’ organisations. To be eligible, projects or initiatives should have taken place within the last 12 months.

Community champions

Project category

Community champions

This award recognises organisations, that champion diversity and foster inclusive, cohesive communities. This award will celebrate programmes and initiatives which have created the conditions for local communities to flourish and thrive.

Judges will look for evidence of:

  • Clear evidence of dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion within the community
  • Demonstrable outcomes resulting from the initiatives
  • Creative and effective strategies for addressing community needs and promoting inclusivity.

Who is eligible?

This award is open to all housing organisations who have engaged in successful initiatives for community inclusion and cohesion in the last 12 months.

Striving for sustainability

Project category

Striving for sustainability

This award celebrates organisations that are progressing successfully to achieve their sustainability goals. By recognising efforts like striving closer for net zero targets, adopting renewable energy, and practicing sustainable asset management, this award highlights the importance of environmental responsibility and social impact.

Judges will look for evidence of:

  • Demonstrate that your organisation is actively responding to the sustainability challenge
  • Evidence of the impact of your sustainability campaigns on tenants/residents
  • Examples of the steps taken to make your organisation more sustainable.

Who is eligible?

This award is suited for any organisation involved in housing who has engaged with a sustainability campaign in the past 12 months. These campaigns can include achieving net zero targets, renewal campaigns and sustainable asset management.

Beyond housing

Project category

Beyond housing

This award recognises organisations or projects that have demonstrated commitment to tenant involvement, to help improve services or neighbourhoods.

We are looking for organisations who are involved in empowering tenants or capacity building as catalysts for delivering real change within a community. Typically, these organisations will be at the forefront of delivering innovative and effective ideas for tenant involvement and strive to empower their tenants to be involved in both the management of their housing and the wider community.

Judges will look for evidence of:

  • Commitment to involving tenants/residents or the community in the design, delivery and improvement of services
  • Evidence of working with tenants/residents or the community and other partners to deliver measurable benefits for the community as a whole
  • Action to develop the skills of tenants/residents to empower them to be more active in the community.

Who is eligible?

This award is open to all organisations working in housing and homelessness including landlords, councils, other providers, and voluntary/community groups.

Professionalism in the workplace

Project category

Professionalism in the workplace

This award aims to recognise and celebrate organisations that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the career development and professional growth of their employees.

Judges will look for evidence of:

  • Unique approaches to skill development and employee growth
  • Programmes that cater to different career stages and employee needs
  • Judges will look for applications that not only implement effective programs but also create a thriving environment for continuous learning and growth.

This award is open to all organisations working in housing.

Young professional of the year

Individual category

Young professional of the year

This award category showcases the rising stars of the housing sector who have been working in the industry for three years or under.

The winner of this award will demonstrate that professional and personal success is not dependent on length of career. They will have demonstrated professional commitment to their organisation and/or the communities in which they work, as well as a commitment to their profession.

Judges will look for evidence of:

  • Personal achievement of outstanding success within their organisation in a short period of time they have worked in the sector
  • Personal responsibility for their career and professional development
  • Evidence of passion and drive for housing and commitment to ethics and professional standards for working in the sector.

Who is eligible?

This award is open to individuals 35 or under working in housing in either substantive posts or trainee positions. CIH membership is desirable.

Housing hero (tenant award)

Housing hero (tenant award)

This award acknowledges the exceptional tenants who have demonstrated innovative approaches to addressing housing challenges within their communities. This award will recognise the individuals who have gone above and beyond to help solve the housing problems they see around them.

Judges will look for evidence of:

  • Examples of how you have raised awareness about housing issues and advocated for tenant rights
  • Inspirational stories that encourage other tenants and housing professionals to take action
  • Demonstration of the long-term benefits of your actions and the potential for ongoing positive impact within the community.

Who is eligible?

This award is open to all tenants across Ireland and Northern Ireland who have played a significant role to the community and housing services.

Housing professional of the year

Housing professional of the year

This award honours individuals of the housing sector who have demonstrated exceptional commitment, innovation, and effectiveness in their roles. This is an award tailored for housing professionals who have gone above and beyond in their commitments to the housing sector in the past 12 months.

Judges will look for evidence of:

  • Personal achievement of outstanding success within their organisation over the past 12 months
  • Evidence of passion and drive for housing and commitment to ethics and professional standards for working in the sector
  • Inspiring examples of commitment to serving and improving the community and the housing sector.

Who is eligible?

This award is open to individuals working in various capacities within the housing sector. CIH membership is desirable.

Learner of the year

Learner of the year

This award honours individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to their professional development through their engagement with CIH training, qualifications, apprenticeships, and continuous professional development (CPD) opportunities.

Judges will look for evidence of:

  • Active participation in CIH training programs, qualifications or apprenticeships
  • Evidence of ongoing commitments to personal and professional growth through CPD activities
  • Clear examples of how the nominee has applied their learning in their role.
