This session provides a history of social and affordable housing in Ireland bringing you through the 40 years of housing up to date and introducing the relevant legislation, funding mechanisms and giving an overview of the sector and its key players.

The session will cover:

  • The history of social and affordable housing in Ireland
  • How social and affordable housing is funded in Ireland – key funding mechanisms
  • How the sector is structured and the key players
  • Challenges and opportunities for the future.

What will I learn?

From this training, you'll learn:

  • The who’s who of the Irish social and affordable housing sector including approved housing bodies, The Land Development Agency, Department of Housing, The Housing Agency, Housing Finance Agency, local authorities, tenant groups, Housing Alliance and the Irish Council of Social Housing.
  • How social and affordable housing is funded – CALF, payment and availability agreements, CREL, CAS, CLSS, private finance and rents
  • Key milestones in the development of the sector
  • Where the sector is going in the future.

This course is beneficial for housing associations, housing cooperatives, charities, local authorities, government sector, developers, landlords and other organisations that have housing services as part of their housing provision.

34 years of housing experience in the UK and Ireland having worked across finance, general management, disability organisations, and general needs housing associations and approved housing bodies. With a background in the private sector in top four accounting firms and business consultancy.
