People who require care and support live in all forms of housing not just supported and retirement housing, which can sometimes be assumed. Many tenants in general need housing are ageing, experience long term conditions or are disabled, or can require safeguarding due to abuse or neglect. Housing professionals and contractors are therefore likely to be in contact with people who require additional support to keep them safe.
They have a responsibility to be aware of how to identify children and adults at risk and how to raise their concerns in their organisation and with the appropriate agencies. Safeguarding may also be aligned with other areas of concern for housing including health and wellbeing, anti-social behaviour, disability, hate crime and domestic abuse.
