CIH Cymru's Tyfu Tai Cymru project has today launched a programme to help local groups of housing professionals and tenants overcome housing-related challenges. The ACTion programme will see groups select an issue identified at forums held by Tyfu Tai Cymru in 2018 where issues ranged from tackling empty properties to working more closely with health services. Applicants will undertake research with support from the Tyfu Tai Cymru team and utilise this to inform the work of the wider sector and influence key decision-makers.
The programme aims to harness the expertise and insight of housing professionals locally and combine this with Tyfu Tai Cymru’s resources to take forward co-designed solutions, draw out what works and why and influence decision-makers in the interest of improving the approach across the whole of Wales.
Following an application process the team will be working with two successful groups from February 2020 with the aim of reporting back in February 2021.
Catherine May | Tyfu Tai Cymru manager
We’ve been speaking directly to tenants, housing officers, housing options teams, chief executives and many more people through our forums and they told us about the housing issues facing many parts of Wales and some great ideas about how they could be overcome. We recognise the knowledge and experience that people have about how best to tackle issues in their communities. We are using this opportunity to act as a catalyst to get things going, maintain momentum and help groups to have a real impact in the name of positive, meaningful change
Matt Kennedy | policy and public affairs manager, CIH Cymru
Policy making is sometimes at risk of being too far away from the people it's aiming to help. The ACTion programme will combine the expertise of people who work and live in communities with robust research and evidence gathering to inform sensible changes to policy that reflect the realities being faced on people’s doorsteps.
