CIH launches professional standards resource for use at organisational level

The Chartered Institute of Housing has today in Dunfermline launched a new professional standards self-assessment tool designed to be used at an organisational level, to embed the professional standards across a housing team or organisation.

As the housing sector’s professional body, the self-assessment tools – including guidance and templates applicable to all areas of the UK - are available for free to everyone, regardless of whether they are in CIH membership or not.

The professional standards set out the right behaviours and competences which underpin the work of housing practitioners. They represent a commitment to professionalism, and the value of investing in skills development to ensure that housing practitioners are equipped to address the challenges they face.

The self-assessment tool included in the resources takes a few minutes to complete and instantly provides users with a detailed progress report, identifying strengths and areas for development, alongside tailored resources specific to their learning requirements.

As part of the roll out of the new professional standards resources, CIH Scotland is working with Fife Council to develop additional resources to support them being used at organisational level. 

John Mills, head of housing at Fife Council said: “We look forward to the work of embedding these professional standards across our teams. They will enable an accurate audit of what our development needs are and align our organisational objectives with the professional standards we should all be working to with the support of the Fife Housing Training Academy and the Institute of Housing.”
