CIH Northern Ireland strengthens board with four new appointments

Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Northern Ireland has announced the appointment of four new board members, bringing a wealth of experience in sustainable development, strategic planning, business leadership and skills development to the organisation.

The new appointees, John Carrigan, Alastair Coulson, Lynsey Sloan and Angela Wiggam, join the board at a pivotal time, as CIH Northern Ireland focuses on strengthening its commitment to securing a whole-system approach to housing through effective planning and private sector collaboration.

These appointments follow the stepping down of former board members Kelly Andrews and Tom Potter, whose dedicated service and contributions are gratefully acknowledged.

Carol McTaggart, chair of CIH Northern Ireland said: “We are delighted to welcome Alastair, Angela, John and Lynsey to our board. Their diverse expertise will be invaluable as we navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead. We are especially focused on driving forward our strategic goals around sustainability, skills development and ensuring a collaborative approach to housing solutions. We are also deeply grateful for the dedication and service of Kelly and Tom. Their contributions have been significant, and we wish them all the best in their future endeavours.”

Our new board member profiles:

  • John Carrigan: As managing director of Fraser Millar, John is a leading advocate for low-energy and Passivhaus construction. His extensive experience in property development, including spearheading the UK and Ireland's largest privately funded residential Passivhaus project, will be crucial in driving Chartered Institute of Housing’s sustainability agenda in Northern Ireland.
  • Alastair Coulson: With a strong background in strategic business leadership and asset management as managing director at Lotus Property, Alastair brings valuable expertise in driving complex projects and securing alternative funding. His experience, including his current board role at Co-Ownership Housing, aligns with Chartered Institute of Housing’s focus on supporting innovative housing solutions.
  • Angela Wiggam: A highly experienced chartered town planner and director, head of planning, Ireland at Turley, Angela’s 20 years of expertise in leading complex planning projects across various sectors, including residential and commercial, will be a significant asset, informing CIH’s strategic approach to housing development.
  • Lynsey Sloan: As head of health, sport and care at Northern Regional College, Lynsey is a dynamic senior education leader with a proven track record in curriculum innovation and strategic leadership. She will be of invaluable support to CIH’s focus on skills development and enhancing student achievement as we work on building a skilled workforce for the future.
