New guidance highlights the health impacts from damp and mould

Following the death of Awaab Ishak, the government has worked with rented sector bodies and health experts to provide guidance for landlords across social and private sector, to underline the health impacts and risks from damp and mould. This is in response to the coroner’s concerns on this.

The new guidance Understanding and addressing the health risks of damp and mould in the home launched on 7 September 2023. The government has also issued its report into the review of the Health and Housing Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and next steps: here. The HHSRS is a critical element in the ongoing review of the Decent Homes Standard.
