Scottish Housing Day 2022 - less than two weeks to go!

This year’s Scottish Housing Day will take place in less than a fortnight on Wednesday 14 September 2022. The day is intended to raise awareness of challenges and successes in the housing sector and raise people’s awareness of their housing options. This year the focus is on sustainable housing.

To celebrate there is a range of events and activities taking place all over Scotland. This includes an online SFHA event on managing sustainability, an in person Edinburgh Tenants Federation coffee morning and a Hybrid meeting of the Cross-party Group on Housing which will hear from the minister for zero carbon buildings, active travel and tenants’ rights, Patrick Harvie MSP.

This is in addition to online activity such as Q&A sessions, fun days, sharing stories and blogs and through social media using the hashtag #ScottishHousingDay and the launch of the Scottish Housing Day report on sustainability.

Callum Chomczuk, chair of the Scottish Housing Day working group said:

“We want Scottish Housing Day to encourage discussion about the future of our housing stock and how it can be made more sustainable. And the best way for everyone to get involved in is to come along to any of the events and engage through social media. It is only by working in partnership we can tackle the climate emergency and ensure homes remain both affordable and long lasting. You can find out about all the events taking place on Scottish Housing Day at our website and as detailed above.”

Sally Thomas, chief executive of the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations said:

“Sustainability in housing is a priority for SFHA, and our members are working hard to provide warm, energy efficient homes for tenants across Scotland. Now more than ever, it is crucial that we deliver sustainable homes that ensure a fair and just transition to net zero emissions. This year’s Scottish Housing Day is a great opportunity to showcase the excellent work that housing associations and co-operatives are doing, and to learn from one another”.
