Assured shorthold tenancies (ASTs) are a form of tenancy most commonly used by private sector landlords. Housing associations also use ASTs as starter tenancies and as fixed term tenancies, however, detailed guidance on using them in these circumstances is set out elsewhere in the knowledge hub.
