The Better Social Housing Review (BSHR) was commissioned by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and the National Housing Federation (NHF) in 2022 to examine issues relating to the quality of social housing. Following six months of work by an independent panel, the BSHR set out its findings in December 2022. It found many positive examples of good practice in the sector but also significant and embedded issues that were detrimentally affecting residents, especially from black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds. It subsequently set out seven recommendations to the sector to improve the quality and decency of homes, and the culture and responsiveness of social landlords.
