Spotlight - Meet our members: Amy McClelland

Discover more about the members of CIH Futures Northern Ireland. Today, we're sitting down with Amy McClelland from Northern Ireland Federation of Housing Associations.

Why did you decide on a career in housing?

To be honest, I fell into housing, just like many others, but I am very glad I did. It is a warm and welcoming sector; I feel I am doing something that will make a difference which is important to me.

How did you start your career in housing?

I am now in my role for three months and can honestly say it has been a surprise – a good one! Each day is a bit different, from updating the NIFHA website to organising celebration events to working on policy matters for the sector.

What do you love about your job?

Just recently, we finished an annual campaign on Rural Homes, promoting and celebrating all things rural. Currently, I am working on a campaign for Good Relations Week followed by Energy Saving Week and Homelessness Week, all a strong team effort. I have also, alongside my wonderful colleagues, visited some fantastic schemes which only adds to why the Housing sector will continue to grow into a career for me – I can honestly say I really enjoy my job!

What has been your most memorable experience working in housing and why was it so special?

My favourite experience to date, although there have been a few, was when I joined our small but mighty team for our annual NIFHA Conference, where I met the most passionate people who work in the sector, they love what they do and add real value.
